I have so many treasured memories of Alan and the times that we spent together. When Alan and Lesley first joined St. Paul’s, Alan’s sense of humour was fantastic and we had so many chuckles over Mr Bean. Alan was such a talented musician but also an incredible worship leader. I have so much gratitude for the time that we spent together in the worship group and Alan’s encouragement in my development as a musician and member of the worship group. We set up Home Made Studios at Alan and Lesley’s house on Sunnyside Close and recorded a praise tape together that also found its way onto a CD in a later release. I found the CD recently when preparing to move house and it was so heart warming to listen back to the music we had made together back in the mid 90s. These were very special times and throughout the whole time in the praise group, a love of God, playing music and eating pizza together made for a perfect combination. We had so many post praise group practice pizza sessions at Pizza Hut and the Deep Pan Pizza Co on the Pilsworth Industrial Estate. On many a Sunday afternoon, Alan and I would put on our finest lycra shorts and head out for a bike ride around Rossendale. Both on our matching Peugeot mountain bikes, we would pretty much always end up at the small church in Irwell Vale. We got to know Marjorie there who welcomed us each week with endless cups of tea and cake. Alan was an inspirational role model and friend and will be greatly missed. xxx

Alan, thank you for your love and friendship over many years. Thank you for the silly times and the serious ones. And thank you for helping me discover a wonderful God who loves me perfectly. I will always remember you Much love Graham

Alan had a t shirt with the name Percy printed on it and then in small text Verence. That was Alan, always persevering in everything he did. Particularly persevering in watching the Clarets play at Burnley FC and always ready to stay and chat about the game. The day he asked if he could bring his guitar and play for our Adult Additional Needs Bible Study it was literally music to my ears and of course from Heaven. He was dearly loved by each one of our members and whilst working for the Ambulance Service still popped in to see those of our group who are now in Care Homes. Alan is now in Heaven with the Angels still playing his guitar and singing beautifully. Hopefully one day we will meet again.

I was vicar at St Paul’s when Alan and Lesley joined. They both became valued members . Alan was a supportive churchwarden. He was also a loyal friend. I always valued his comments. He joined me on a trip to Toronto where we met church leaders. He will be greatly missed by his lovely family and friends. Even Christians feel the pain of loss, so I pray for Lesley and Sam in their loss God bless from Peter and Linda Heywood

I was very fortunate to first meet Lesley and Alan when I was a teenager. I remember that they moved from Manchester and brought a sparkle with them. In more recent years, Alan and I shared some similar interests including running, eating at the Indian Harvest and migraines! I will remember Alan’s kindness, gentleness and sense of humour.

Thank you for setting up this memorial to Alan. We hope that you find it a positive experience developing the site and that it becomes a place of comfort and inspiration for you to visit whenever you want or need to.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
